About & methodology
SW Valley Openings lists what's opening, closing, under construction and proposed in five southwest Salt Lake Valley cities: West Jordan, South Jordan, Herriman, Riverton, Bluffdale. It's independent and isn't affiliated with any city government or with City Journals.
Where listings come from
- City newsrooms and blogs, planning commission and city council agendas and minutes (including the Utah Public Notice Website), city business-license lists, and businesses' own announcements.
- Local news: The Salt Lake Tribune, KSL, FOX 13, Utah Business, the Salt Lake Business Journal and others.
- Every listing links to its source and shows the date it was last checked.
- If a source doesn't give an address, date or detail, the listing says "Unknown".
- Dates are shown the way the source states them ("Fall 2027"). For sorting only, seasons are placed mid-season.
Listing types
- Opening Recently opened, or an announced opening.
- Closing Closed, or announced a closing.
- Under construction Under construction, or a road or park project in progress.
- Proposed In the approval process (site plan, rezone, permit) or announced without a firm date.
Map
Listings with a street address are placed using the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder, with OpenStreetMap Nominatim as a fallback. Pins are approximate. Map tiles © OpenStreetMap contributors.
